Do I need a surfboard? We will provide the surfboards and wetsuits. Although if you already have a wetsuit you like you are encouraged to bring it.
What does a typical session look like? You should arrive early to get settled. At 9:30 we circle up and check in with how we're feeling, practice a short meditation or coping skill and discuss the topic of the day. Then we'll do some on-land surf instruction before getting into the water. We surf together in the shallows. Clients take turns catching waves with an instructor- you never have to surf on your own, unless you want to. Around 11:15 we get out of the water and circle up to celebrate what we accomplished.
What if the waves are too big for me? You will be supported whether you choose to challenge yourself, or set a boundary and stay where you feel safe. If the weather or ocean conditions are unsafe or otherwise unsuitable for surfing, we will engage in experiential activities on the sand.
