What can therapy help with?
Clients receive individual therapy for variety of issues including: depression, anxiety, low self esteem, addiction and trauma. Another common topic of individual therapy is relationship difficulties with family, friends or at work.
my approach to therapyMy approach to therapy is based on a combination of my own personal experiences and several types of therapy which I have found most effective for myself and my clients.
I believe that the rapport between therapist and client is one of the most important elements. Because of this, I try to be very authentic with my clients and create a space where they feel safe to do the same. I address all of my clients with unconditional positive regard, which means that I fully support and accept them and all of their feelings because I know that they are inherently good people who just want to be loved and understood. |
I take a holistic approach by addressing elements like sleep, exercise, healthy eating habits and spirituality, to the extent that clients are comfortable. I work collaboratively with clients to focus on the goals that they want for themselves. I help all of my clients develop and maintain healthy coping skills such as breathing exercises, visualizations and meditation. We can also address unhealthy coping like substance abuse, disordered eating and over working.
EMDR is a unique trauma processing therapy I got trained to do as soon as I could because of the benefits I experienced receiving it myself. It involves processing traumatic memories, nightmares, or current symptoms while receiving bi-lateral input (either moving eyes left to right, or holding tappers that tap your left then right hand).
I've also received training in Internal Family Systems therapy IFS. Also known as parts work, this therapy helps clients address troubling symptoms or feelings as just a part of them, which they can heal through connecting to and understanding it. This allows clients to learn about wounded younger parts of themselves and heal old traumas.
I also frequently provide psychoeducation to my clients to help them reframe a situation or learn a new approach to it. Some common psychoeducation includes teaching clients about how the nervous system works, patterns of disorders like addiction, or interpersonal skills like boundaries and communication.
